Soaring forest-facing windows and a fireplace anchored beneath vaulted ceilings make this A-frame house feel like the mountain version of exactly where you want to be. Come dusk, the deck comes into its own – a hot tub steaming among the pines and a gas fire table for lingering under the stars. When adventure calls, Palisades Tahoe is a twenty-four-minute drive and Kings Beach is eleven minutes by car, putting world-class skiing and North Shore lake days in easy reach from a single base.

Local guide
About Carnelian Bay
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
