This A-frame in the pines above Truckee celebrates the magic of the forest. Two fireplaces and a pair of decks make it easy to move between the indoors and out, whatever the season. Three separate living areas – including a loft and a game room with an arcade setup – give larger groups room to settle into their own corners. Tahoe Donner's HOA amenities cover a surprising amount of ground, from a private beach club and community pool to downhill skiing, tennis, and golf, with Northstar California and Palisades Tahoe a short drive away for bigger ski days.

About Truckee
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
