Perched quietly among the pines just over a mile from downtown Idyllwild, this single-level house is built around a wrap-around deck where evenings tend to stretch longer than planned – string lights overhead, the barbecue still warm, the mountain air doing its thing. Inside, exposed crossbeams and a fireplace anchor the great room, with a corner nook that's good for games or simply settling in. The main suite opens directly onto the deck, while the second bedroom comes with its own Pac-Man console – a detail younger guests tend to appreciate. San Bernardino National Forest and the San Jacinto Mountains trails are close at hand when the mood calls for it.

Home truths
Riverside County has strict outdoor lighting rules – your string lights must stay on a steady setting, with no blinking, flashing, or rotating modes. You're personally liable if light spills onto neighbouring land, so it's worth checking your setup before dark.
The second bedroom is set up as a kids' room with a bunk bed arranged as a single over double – it works well for children but is a snug fit for grown-ups.
You'll need a car here. Downtown Idyllwild is just over a mile away, and most restaurants, Lake Hemet, and the hiking trails all require a short drive.
Guests must be 25 years of age or older to rent this home.
For those with reduced mobility, there's a ground floor bedroom and bathroom here.
Due to this home's remote location, you might find that the phone signal is patchy from time to time.
At full occupancy, one guest will sleep on the sofa bed in the living area.
