Pine trees press right up against the windows of this Truckee house, and the wood-burning fireplace in the living room makes the most of that backdrop on cooler evenings. Outside, a forested deck and terrace with a fire pit give the group somewhere to decompress beneath a tall canopy. For larger gatherings, there's real room to breathe – a formal great room, a game loft, an entertainment basement, and a gym mean everyone can find their rhythm. Olympic Valley skiing is close when the mountains call, with Lake Tahoe is just a short drive away.

About Truckee
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
