Sitting directly opposite the Roman Forum in a building that dates to the 16th century, this apartment puts you at the heart of ancient Rome before you've even stepped outside. Hand-painted tiles and a coffered ceiling lend the interior a sense of history, and though the kitchen lacks an oven, it makes this home a convenient choice for quick breakfasts and snacks. You'll want to make the most of your time here – the Colosseum, Pantheon, and the banks of the river Tiber are all less than a twenty-minute walk away.

Home truths
At full occupancy, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the living area. Due to space limitations, we'd recommend this home for a maximum of two people. There's also a single pull-out sofa in the bedroom, which is only suitable for small children.
Given the home's central spot, expect to hear some street noise throughout your stay.
You won't find an oven here – though there is a hob. We think the kitchen is better suited to prepping lighter bites than large meals.

More than 300 years of segregation were only ended in 1870, when many...
