Tucked into the Sierra Nevada pines near Kings Beach, this house is set up for mountain trips in every season. The living room, with its gas fireplace, makes a natural gathering point after a day on the slopes or the trail, and the deck – shaded by towering pines and warmed by an outdoor heater – is easy to linger on come evening. A games room with a pool table keeps things going after dark, and a third bedroom kitted out with a bunk bed and toys means younger guests are well looked after. Northstar Resort is under ten minutes by car, and Kings Beach itself is a five-minute drive away.

About Kings Beach
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
