Perched on the 18th fairway of the nearby golf course, this mountain house is as well-suited to winter as it is to warmer months. After a day on the slopes – the free Northstar shuttle stops right at the driveway – the cedar sauna and seven-person hot tub on the lower deck earn their keep, with fairway and valley views stretching out in front of you. Inside, the soaring living space and central bar area are built for long evenings, and a dedicated mud room makes coming in from the snow far less chaotic. Historic Downtown Truckee is about eighteen minutes by car, and the shores of Lake Tahoe are within easy reach.

About Truckee
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
