Via Margutta has long drawn artists and intellectuals to its gallery-lined courtyards, and this villa sits right at the heart of it – a rare address in Rome's historic centre that manages to feel quiet. The shaded terrace is made for long lunches above the rooftops, while inside, aged timber beams and light-filled rooms give the bedrooms a warmth that feels Roman in the best sense. A sauna and hot tub are uncommonly hard to find this close to Piazza di Spagna and Villa Borghese, and the Colosseum is a twenty-nine-minute walk when the mood for ancient ruins strikes.
