Tucked into a quiet courtyard in the 11th arrondissement, this studio apartment is calm in a way that feels rare in Paris. Workshop-style windows bring the planted courtyard inside, flooding the space with soft natural light from the moment you wake up. It's a great size for couples and solo travellers, though a sofa bed can sleep two more if needed. The position between Bastille and Oberkampf means the 11th's creative energy is right at your door – Place de la Bastille is a ten-minute walk, and the bustling Marché d'Aligre is fifteen minutes on foot.

Home truths
This is a studio apartment, so the sleeping, living, and dining areas all share one open space. While there's a sofa bed for guests three and four, we think it works best for two.
The apartment faces the courtyard rather than the street, which keeps things calm despite being in the heart of the 11th arrondissement. You won't get much direct sunlight, but the planted courtyard keeps the light pleasant.
You won't find an oven here – though there is a hob. We think the kitchen is better suited to prepping lighter bites than large meals.
As is common in France, the toilet is separate from the bathroom.

The area is also home to a fabulous modern opera house (opened in 1989) renowned for...
