Perched above a protected cove on Sicily's northern coast, this architect's villa puts the Tyrrhenian Sea at the centre of almost every moment. Whether you're dining alfresco on the terrace, sipping cocktails as the sun goes down, or watching the light shift over the water from the glass-walled living room, you'll feel the pull of the water. It was originally designed in the 1970s, and its blend of mid-century modern style and contemporary touches is a winning combination – think custom-made furniture, geometric flooring, and slate accents. Direct sea access is just 20 metres from the villa. Further afield, Bagheria's heritage of baroque villas is just down the road, and Palermo is thirty minutes away.

Home truths

  • The villa is rented exclusively to families, so it's worth confirming with your host that your group fits that arrangement before booking.

  • The UK king-size beds in three of the five bedrooms can each be split into two singles upon request – useful if your group includes solo sleepers. Let your host know your preference before arrival.

  • The nearest shops, restaurants, and supermarkets are a short drive away in Aspra, Santa Flavia, and Bagheria – you'll want a car to get around comfortably here. Free parking is available for up to five cars.

  • The terrace and roof are easy to access, but they don't have railings everywhere, so they may not be suitable for small children. Getting down to the sea also means navigating a flight of steps.

  • While not all bedrooms and bathrooms are photographed, expect the style and quality to be consistent with the rest of the home.
