Decorated in Sicilian Liberty style, this apartment in central Syracuse blends classic craftsmanship with modern comfort in a way that feels instantly captivating. A freestanding bathtub – an uncommon find in a city-centre apartment – adds a touch of ease after a day's exploring, and the other characterful touches are the icing on the cake. This is the perfect spot for sightseeing, with Ortigia Island and the ancient Greek theatre both a short walk away. We think it's a well-placed base for anyone who wants the old city on their doorstep.

Home truths
The road directly opposite the apartment is busy day and night, so if you're a light sleeper, it's worth packing earplugs.
The apartment is on the second floor of a building with no lift, so you'll carry luggage up the stairs on arrival and departure and use the steps regularly. It may not suit those with limited mobility.
There is a kitchen here, but it's on the compact side. We think it's best for preparing light bites – restaurants and eateries are nearby for larger meals.
