A 19th-century farmhouse set among vineyards and hazelnut groves, this villa has been transformed into a retreat that makes the Lazio countryside feel like your own private corner of Italy. The pool sits at the heart of outdoor life here – sunlit, surrounded by rolling hills, and lit up after dark. Wander beyond it and you'll find roughly 7,000 square metres of grounds planted with olive trees and cypresses. A covered dining terrace is ideal for long, unhurried lunches, while a home gym keeps mornings purposeful. Civita di Bagnoregio, the dramatic clifftop town, is a twenty-two-minute drive away.

Home truths
You're about 3 kilometres from the nearest village, so you'll want a car for shopping, eating out, and exploring the area. There's free parking for up to four cars on the driveway.
The villa has three levels, but the lower-ground cellar is not accessible to guests and the top floor is reserved for the owner – though the owner is not present on site during your stay.
The pool is open from the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday in October, so if you're visiting outside those dates you won't be able to use it.
The two bedrooms on the first floor with divisible king-size beds can be split into twin configurations – worth letting your host know in advance if you'd prefer that setup.
Your host can provide a cot and high chair for little ones upon request – just bring your own cot linen.

Here, the pace of life is slower, the air is fresher and the atmosphere is unpretentious – no wonder it was deemed one of the most livable cities in the world. With steep, twisting lanes, underground Roman tunnels and three-ringed city walls, history oozes from every nook and...
