Perched along the historic Petraio stairs – one of Naples' most characterful pedestrian routes – this apartment earns its place through an open terrace that looks straight out across the Gulf of Naples. Breakfast with that view, or a slow evening watching the light change over the sea, are hard to beat. The funicular is a five-minute walk away, making Vomero and the wider city easy to reach. Worth noting: getting here means navigating several flights of stairs, so it suits those who don't mind the climb in exchange for a special setting.

Home truths
Getting to and from the apartment on foot means climbing several flights of stairs along the Petraio stairway to reach the main road. This is a genuine consideration if you have mobility difficulties, are travelling with heavy luggage, or plan to use a pushchair.
The living area has a double sofa bed, so if you're a group of four, two of you will be sleeping in the lounge rather than the bedroom.
