Round, redwood-sided, and half-hidden among pines, this house at Northstar has a shape you notice on the drive in. Inside, warm wood runs from floor to open-beam ceiling, and the circular living room draws everyone in after a day on the slopes. The real reward, though, is upstairs – a sauna tucked under the roofline pairs with an outdoor hot tub on the deck, making the wind-down ritual. The Village at Northstar is just minutes away, and a free door-to-door shuttle picks up directly at the door, so the mountain is never far.

Home truths
Bears are common in the area – you'll need to keep all waste locked inside the bear box at all times – this is a working wildlife precaution, not just a guideline.
The free shuttle is seasonal, so if you're visiting outside peak ski or summer periods, you may need to drive or arrange your own transport to the village.
The lead guest must be at least 21 years old.
The bunk room is arranged with a single-over-double bunk bed – we think it's best suited to a group of children.
You'll have access to the on-site swimming pools and hot tubs, tennis and pickleball courts, and more. They're shared with the building's other residents.

About Truckee
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
