Do you have a question about this home or the local area?
Tucked into the alpine forest of Schaffer's Mill in North Lake Tahoe, this contemporary mountain house is built around the landscape that surrounds it – tall pines visible from the kitchen, the bedrooms, and the covered patio where heaters keep things comfortable year-round. After a day on the slopes or trails, the private hot tub beneath the evergreens earns its place. When evenings call for something quieter, the dedicated media room delivers. Historic Downtown Truckee – with its boutiques, cafes, and preserved railway charm – is a thirteen-minute drive when you need a change of scene.

Home truths
One of the bedrooms has two double-over-double bunk beds that can sleep up to eight people – we think this room might be best suited to children.
Wi-fi here is slower than you'd expect at home – mountain internet speeds are the reality in this area, so factor that in if you're working remotely or streaming heavily.
You'll have garage parking for three vehicles plus two driveway spaces – street parking is not permitted and RVs are not allowed on site.
If you're visiting in winter, a 4WD vehicle and snow tyres are strongly recommended – the mountain roads around Schaffer's Mill can be challenging in icy conditions.

About Truckee
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
