Built in 1632 on the Prinsengracht, this canal house apartment is the real Amsterdam – all period fireplaces, art-lined walls, and views over the boat-filled canal from the dining room. The living room fire is stacked and ready for you, and the quiet rear of the home feels worlds away from the city, with a courtyard offering a retreat. Your hosts live in the house and welcome you personally, their local knowledge as useful as the tram stop fifteen-seconds from the front door. The Anne Frank House is a fifteen-minute walk, and Westerkerk a fifteen-minute stroll.

Home truths

  • To reach the front door, you'll climb twenty-three steps up from the street, plus navigate some winding internal stairs between floors. Most guests find them manageable, but they're worth bearing in mind if you have mobility concerns or heavy luggage – your hosts can help carry bags up on arrival.

  • This is your hosts' own home, so private closets and drawers are not available to you. A clothes-hanging rack is provided in the bedrooms instead – worth packing accordingly if you're staying for more than a few nights.

  • This is a lived-in home. You should expect some of the host's personal belongings to be present during your stay.

  • You're right on the Prinsengracht in the Jordaan, and the neighbourhood is extremely walkable – multiple guests found they could reach key attractions, restaurants, and museums entirely on foot. The tram stop fifteen seconds away makes anywhere else in the city easy to reach without a car.
