An architect-designed apartment in the heart of Rome, where mahogany doors, wooden ceilings, and restored parquet floors give the interior a quiet confidence that earned it a spot in design magazines. The main bedroom opens onto a balcony overlooking the internal courtyard – a calm retreat after a day on foot. And those days will be full: the Pantheon and Piazza Venezia are both around seven-minutes' walk away, Piazza Navona a twelve-minute stroll, and the Roman Forum just fourteen. Few central Rome apartments put this much of the ancient city within easy reach.

Home truths
You're on the second floor with no lift mentioned, so you'll need to carry luggage up the stairs on arrival and departure.
The Trevi Fountain is just outside – you'll hear the water from inside the apartment, which most guests find atmospheric, though it's worth knowing if you're a light sleeper.
The entrance-dining room also serves as a sleeping space – at full occupancy, two guests will sleep on the foldaway double bed and two on the sofa bed.
You won't find an oven here – though there is a hob. We think the kitchen is better suited to prepping lighter bites than large meals.

The site is reputed to be at the junction of three roads – tre vi – that mark the arrival point of the Acqua Vergine, an ancient aqueduct that provided water to much of the city. The fountain and its elaborate façade was a papal commission from the eighteenth century – relatively recent in...
