More than 220 years ago, a sea captain called this Chatham estate home – and the exposed beams and Colonial bones still carry that history into every corner. Today it's a place for big gatherings, with a heated pool overlooking Pleasant Bay and the nearby golf course, a covered dining terrace, and a private putting green on the sprawling grounds. Jackknife Cove Beach is a two-minute drive, with beach chairs and towels provided, and a private chef can be arranged for evenings when you'd rather not leave at all.

Home truths
The accommodation here is set across the main house, which has six bedrooms, and a two-bedroom guest house which also has a sofa bed in the den.
The guest house sleeps additional guests when the home is fully open, but from mid-October through April the barn is closed. During those months you'll have six bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms, sleeping a maximum of fourteen guests rather than eighteen.
The main part of the guest house is not air-conditioned – only the bedrooms and the kitchen and living room area have cooling, so the great room can get warm in summer.
The swimming pool is only available for use between Memorial Day (the last Monday of May) and Columbus Day (the second Monday in October).
