Full of brownstones and leafy trees, this traditional townhouse in the beautiful and historic neighbourhood known as Bed-Stuy is a breath of fresh air amid bustling Brooklyn. Shop till-you-drop in Tompkins Ave (twenty minutes walk), before stopping off for a drink at a hip bar or indie coffee house nearby – there's a load to choose from. Hungry? Grab a pizza slice to go and have a NYC-style picnic at Fulton Park, before returning to your bright and colourful home in just seven minutes. Inside, this one-of-a-kind duplex combines bohemian design with modern comforts in elegant fashion. There are colour pops in every corner, with stylish additions of kitsch for an eclectic edge, while the vintage chaise lounge, exposed brick breakfast corner and ornamental fireplace make the living space a joy to relax in. Come morning, get out on the right side of bed in the vibrant bedrooms – we loved how the orange-tinged wood combines with red and yellow tones to create a get-up-and-go type of atmosphere. And here in Brooklyn, that's exactly what we recommend.

About Bedford-Stuyvesant

Bedford-Stuyvesant, popularly known as Bed-Stuy (sounds like Bed-Sty), is located in central Brooklyn and nudges up against ultra-hip Williamsburg. It's a neighbourhood that can feel quite different from one block to the next - pristine, historic brownstones on one leafy street and a less aesthetically-pleasing view on the next. It has always had a tight-knit community feel (lots of block parties in the summer months) and in the past decade...
