Behind the Wall has a new kitchen and bathroom, both done up smartly, and while it isn’t an architectural marvel, it’s spacious and perfectly comfortable. However, all of this is beside the point. Look at the view of St. Peter’s dome, and you’ll see what the point is. You’re as close to the Vatican as is possible without being inside the walls. It’s not often you get to stay directly opposite the Porta del Perugino.

About Valle Aurelia

Valle Aurelia is directly behind the Vatican, but you’d never guess from the number of tourists. Perhaps the nickname, Valle dell’Inferno (Valley of Hell) is enough to put them off. Rest assured though, it’s not a comment on the place, rather a reference to the presence of enormous furnaces in the area, which were in use up until the 1920s. It was the heart of metalworking, clay firing and brickmaking in Rome for centuries, and this instilled a vibrant working-class character to the neighbourhood, which endures today.

Host

This home is managed by Andrea

This home is managed directly by its owner who will be your point of contact before and during your stay. Andrea and Stefania own this flat, and they also live in the same building so if anything should arise, they’ll be on hand to sort things out. We think that being so local is great, as they have lots of tips on where to go and what to eat, though they also often leave a little, edible gift in the apartment.
