Do you have a question about this home or the local area?
This home has been crafted with a love for comfort and bright colours. It's not the most modern or stylish home in our collection, but we liked the small touches that bring out the cosy character and The Xylophone's central location. There's lots to love about this home – the living room is flooded with light, and there's a small balcony that looks over one of Lisbon's most popular shopping streets, making this a great base to explore the city.

Home truths
There are quite a lot of scuff marks on the walls and bedframes
At full occupancy, there aren't enough chairs at the dining table to accommodate all guests
Although this home can accommodate up to six guests, the fifth and sixth guest will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room
There street below is quite noisy during the day and some of it can be heard inside
We would like there to be more cutlery and utensils in the kitchen

About Chiado
Chiado is full of old-world charm, and is one of the best-loved parts of Lisbon. Think pastel-hued homes, cobbled streets and plenty of squares to soak up the atmosphere. There’s a slower pace of life in Chiado, which is why it’s so popular with locals. Hop on a tram to take in the open-air ruin of the Camo church, a Gothic masterpiece that was mostly destroyed in an earthquake, or hit the shops – this is one of Lisbon’s best shopping districts, after all.
Explore the area

The ruins of this colossal gothic church are evocative reminders of the devastation left by the 1755 earthquake, during which it was the largest church in Lisbon.

Ride the Bica Tram
Originally constructed in the nineteenth century, this iconic tram ride captures the essence of Lisbon – get ready for a steep incline and a brilliant view of historical buildings.

Ascend the Santa Justa elevator
This elevator was built back in 1902. Recently it became classified as a National Monument – ascend and take in the stunning skyline.

Go shopping at Armazéns do Chiado
Armazéns do Chiado is a shopping centre inside a classicist building that has a long and glorious history – its foundations date back to the twelfth century.

Get lost in Bairro Alto
Wander around Barrio Alto's streets. Choose daytime, when it's peaceful and quaint, or nighttime, when its bars and restaurants are bursting with life.

Sip on Portuguese wine at By The Wine
Explore the flavors of local winemaking tradition and sample more than sixty variations from the Jose María de Fonseca vineyards.

Enjoy regional specialties at Casa do Alentejo
What used to be a palace is now a thriving restaurant. Casa do Alentejo has been welcoming guests for over eighty-five years, with singing and dancing on the weekends.
