Aperitivo might have a small footprint, but it’s unusual in that it’s a real house, spread over three floors, from the ground to the (magical) roof terrace. It’s been put together with a lot of care – this much is evident – and a lot of the furniture has been cleverly made from repurposed materials, such as the chest of drawers that used to be an old trunk. Finding this sort of place in the middle of Monti isn’t easy, and we’re very happy to have come across Aperitivo.

Rosella, the host, would prefer that any stay were a maximum of ten days
One of the bedrooms has quite a low ceiling – you're unlikely to bang your head but don't jump around
