Soaking in a pine-forest hot tub while snow settles on the trees around you – that's the centrepiece of this secluded Lake Tahoe cabin. Inside, timber beams soar overhead and a wood-burning stove anchors the living room, making it a natural gathering spot after a day on the slopes. Diamond Peak Ski Resort is nearby, and Lake Tahoe's alpine waters are a fifteen-minute drive – as are the white-granite beaches of Sand Harbor State Park. A wooden balcony with a telescope and two patios with forest views round out a house built for slow, restorative days in the pines.

Home truths

  • You'll need a car here. There's free parking for up to four cars on the driveway and two cars in the garage.

  • The home sits close to a highway, so you may notice some road noise – particularly in the lighter sleep hours.

  • Due to strict Lake Tahoe wildfire regulations, all outdoor wood burning, fire pits, and charcoal grills are prohibited. The gas barbecue is the only outdoor cooking option available (in season).

  • If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and – with at least 24 hours' notice – a high chair. Ask ahead and they'll have everything ready for your arrival.

  • The barbecue and all outdoor furniture and amenities are seasonal – available from Memorial Day to Labour Day only, so they won't be accessible for winter and ski-season visits.

Local guide

About Incline Village

On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
