Stable Doors puts you at ease as soon as you walk in. The different shades of blue form a coherent thread, as does the repeated use of velvet, and these dovetail nicely with the pale walls and wooden floor. The most striking feature is the wonderful double door, with huge stone arches and heavy wood. It leads you to think about the history of the flat, and how it might have evolved over the years. It’s a strangely pensive experience, but one indicative of the subtle complexities of the flat.
