With idyllic views over the Essex countryside, this architect-designed barn on a farm makes full use of the vistas with its large picture windows. The spacious open-plan living room is perfect for entertaining – there's the all-important log burner, too, for when the weather turns cold. Or, in the warmer months, make the most of the garden with its barbecue and fire pit – though be prepared to chat with your neighbours as this is shared with two other homes. Speaking of gardens, Gibberd Garden, created by Sir Frederick Gibberd, is nearby, and the historic market town of Bishop's Stortford is within easy driving distance too.
