When you have to climb three flights of steps to reach an apartment, it's fair to say that the flat has to be worth the effort. And trust us – this third-floor gem does not disappoint. We were blown away by what awaited us – antique furniture, gorgeous frescoes and plenty of grace, old-world charm and romance to go around. It's perfect for couples or solo travellers and definitely has the wow factor, with its soft pink walls, light-filled windows and classic Italian design. The trump card, however, has to be the unbeatable view of Brunelleschi's iconic red-tiled dome. In the mornings, you can lie in bed and watch as the sun hits the cathedral dome, while in the evenings, you can enjoy your birds-eye view with a glass of wine in hand. These are the moments that we search for – and the whole experience is made even better by the excellent location. You're right in the centre of the action, with almost all of Florence's must-see sights reachable on foot, including Uffizi Gallery, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio.

Home truths

The flat is on the third floor of a building without a lift, and the communal stairwell isn't as well maintained as the flat itself – it's about 56 steps to reach the top and the last flight of stairs is very steep

When we measured the wifi, we could only get 7Mbps out of it

Two people can sleep on a sofa bed in the living room but it would be a squeeze – we think it's better suited to a couple

The kitchen isn't especially well-equipped, but with so many excellent restaurants nearby, you probably won't do much cooking
