A favourite celeb haunt and a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, staying on Osea Island is like stepping back in time, except you might have the likes of George Ezra, The Weeknd and Poppy Delevigne for company. The island is only accessible by a mile-long winding causeway (or helicopter) that spends most of the time hidden underwater, only unveiling itself to you (and perhaps your Ocado delivery driver) for a couple of hours on either side of high tide. Get the timings wrong, however, and you could be waiting a long time. Handily, your host provides personalised arrival instructions based on your arrival and departure days, and we found it all added to the sense of adventure. Once you've crossed onto the island, your home for the duration of your stay is this stunning three-bedroom home located in Osea's quaint village. Inside, wood panelling, a four-poster bed, and a grand hallway add a sense of luxury, while the occasional coastal touches keep things playful and relaxed. Outside the home, the communal facilities ensure you're entertained, no matter the weather. Shuttle around the island on bikes – à la Soho Farmhouse – find a patch of beach to picnic on, watch a movie on the projector screen, or play back-to-back games of table tennis and pool. Spend long summer days playing croquet with a Pimms in hand, endless rounds of mini-golf, or games of beach volleyball. Afterwards, lounge by the heated outdoor pool or take a refreshing dip in the sea.

About Essex

Despite being so close to London, Essex is a world apart. With rolling countryside that inspired Constable, one of Britain's greatest landscape painters, delightful seaside towns and a host of secret coastal islands, Essex surprises at every turn. Where else in the UK can you walk past Queen Elizabeth's hunting lodge in Epping Forest, enjoy a Michelin-starred lunch near Maldon (of sea salt fame), before spending your afternoon lounging in...
