There's something about Lake Tahoe that feels magic. Surrounded by jagged mountain peaks with jaw-dropping lake views, you'll experience a feeling of serenity in your waterside home on the California-Nevada border. While Tahoe is best known for its top tier winter resorts, it's a year-round destination, with plenty of hiking, boating and watersports on offer in the warmer months. Located on the upscale north shore, this third-floor apartment provides easy access to summer and winter activities. Out of the elements, the interior is inspired by the woods and lakeland that surround it – offering up a mix of simple furnishings and coherent colours that resemble a walk through a forest in every room. The feeling of outside-in is heightened by a mezzanine area, blessed by the light of the lake and a balcony with a barbecue and outdoor sofa – we loved the feeling of connection with the outdoors wherever we went. To stay here is to be at one with nature – without sacrificing the home comforts.

The neighbourhood is in an older casino area along a relatively busy stretch of road – so there's a good chance you'll hear some traffic noise
You'll need a car for ease of getting around, and there's one parking space in the underground garage
The gym is shared with other residents of the building

About North Tahoe
On the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is one of the largest bodies of water in the US. As you'd expect, it's an area of astounding beauty, but the lake has also made a name for itself as a centre for both winter sports and water sports, as well as hiking and cycling. The north shore is a bit quieter and more relaxed than the south. While there's still plenty to do (including the annual food and wine festival), you're unlikely to see crowds like you do in other parts of the region.
