This beautifully renovated sixteenth century farmhouse with sweeping grounds is perfectly suited to a large family or group. Children will love the play room and football goals in the garden, and a couple of the bedrooms are especially designed for kids. The heated salt-water swimming pool really makes this home stand out for us, as does the air-conditioned barn – available for an additional fee – complete with a range of fitness equipment and pool table. Be aware however, that four of the bedrooms and three of the bathrooms are in annexes separate from the main house.

Home truths
Half of the bedrooms aren't in the main house, which might not suit everyone
Some mezzanine bedrooms are only accessible by ascending steep steps, and the ceilings are also fairly low in the eaves above some of the beds
If there are no children on the trip and it's a full house, some adults will have to sleep in kid's rooms
