Set on the Cowal peninsula this large stone house is surrounded by both Holy Loch and Argyll Forest Park. The surrounding mountains and lochs create striking vistas, which are best viewed by foot or by bike (there are bicycles to borrow in the house). You can walk straight from the house on local footpaths to explore the landscape or head to the loch for a spot of fishing. The 17th-century stone house peeks through large trees which were loved by the Younger family who previously owned this home and subsequently cared for the nearby Benmore Botanic Gardens. Blooming hydrangea and full flower beds add splashes of colour the lush green garden where a lawn is set with football goals for the kids. There’s a yurt at the bottom of the garden bookable for yoga retreats (just ask the host) and a hot tub overlooking the shimmering loch. Inside it's contemporary meets tradition in the cosy lounge with leather seats, sash windows and an original stone fireplace. There’s a TV den and games room with a pool table for a more casual hang-out and budding chefs will be happy with the country-style kitchen heated by an AGA. For a full-on manor house experience, set up for dinner in the panelled dining room which feels like you’ve stepped back into the 18th century.
