You may feel like you’ve stepped back in time when you pull up to this chateau, and that’s completely intentional – it’s been in the owner’s family since it was first built in 1820, and offers a vintage-style escape from modern life. The decor is, in our opinion, a little hit-or-miss; we’re big fans of the antique maps and chandeliers, but we’re not quite sold on the chintzy curtains. Regardless, the chateau is rustic and comfortable, and the true attraction is the location – it’s surrounded by mature woodlands, comes with a private pool, and the pretty streets and tempting boulangeries of the local village, Saint Jean, are just a short stroll away. The local river (the Indre) is also famous as a spot for wild swimming.
