Anyone who thinks large homes lack personality clearly never visited Form Over Function. This immense castle may have nine bedrooms and a four-hectare estate, but it retains its 13th-century character (along with corresponding low doorways). Originally built by a Cathar Lord, it’s now owned by a sculptor whose work is scattered across the grounds. The 86-square-metre Knights’ Hall with library was made for banquets, so bring your best mead and tuck into a mediaeval meal you’ll never forget. There’s also a separate 4-bedroom cottage on the grounds, which can be hired for an additional fee.
