Tucked away in the quaint Ionian Island of Kefalonia (Captain Corelli's Mandolin fans, anyone?), there's a treasure trove of secluded beaches, gorges, underground lakes and villages waiting for you. For a perfect day trip, drive along the coast to nearby Assos. Hike through dense pine and cypress woods, admire ancient Ionian architecture and head to a taverna for a plate of delicious mezze (with a last shot of ouzo) before heading back.
