Once the home of Leopold II (the Grand Duke of Tuscany) this sixteenth-century castle is set in extensive, private gardens and surrounded by unspoilt countryside. On arrival, a tree-lined avenue leads to the gates that give access to the grounds, where you get the first glimpse of the imposing, ivy-clad castle. It only gets better inside, with high ceilings, original features and rooms filled with antiques, oil paintings and family heirlooms. With ten traditionally decorated and sumptuous bedrooms, it can comfortably accommodate a large group or an extended family. For a moment of quiet, there are so many secret corners to claim as your own, with plenty of opportunity to relax in front of an open fire with a good book and a glass of Chianti. The whole group can get together in the impressive dining room with frescoed ceilings, and enjoy a feast cooked in the fully-equipped, professional kitchen – staff are also available for the most indulgent break. Don't miss the chance to stay in this piece of Tuscan history.
