Balancing contemporary comfort with classic charm, this terracotta villa offers guests the opportunity to stay in a history-rich home – the first stone having been laid in 1100AD. Its interiors are sure to impress having been styled by a famous Italian interior designer. We were smitten with the Biedermeier furnishings, rare paintings and handmade linen drapes. The outside space is pretty special, too. From its imposing hilltop position with breathtaking views of the undulating Tuscan landscape to the huge saltwater swimming pool flanked by comfortable loungers, every single corner oozes la dolce vita. There’s a pizza oven and barbecue for alfresco feasts and multiple seating areas for sharing bottles of local Chianti, well into the evening. Spend your mornings rambling through the countryside, before jumping in the car and taking the thirty-minute drive to Florence, where Michelangelo’s David and creamy gelato awaits.

Coverciano is perhaps best known as a football hub – it’s home to training grounds for Italian national teams, and a football history museum. Although not a traditional tourist spot, it’s well connected to Florence on public transport, and the hillside villages Maiano and Fiesole are accessible by bus or a short drive. It also has a fair share of local restaurants where you're more likely to find local familes...

Nearly twenty years ago, Oliver and his friend began curating the world's most unique and rustic getaways.
