This one is hard to beat. Built in 1816, this former chapel has been converted into a unique home for up to nine people, so that you can escape to the Cornish coast and bring all of your friends and family members with you. It's the beautifully preserved original features that really caught our eye – from the pulpit and organ to the stained-glass windows – it's all here. There is even a full set of Encyclopedia Britannicas from the 19th century. So convincing is the restoration, that you may not have noticed all the usual mod cons that have crept in, including a surround-sound audio system and a 55-inch smart TV. Although this is a centuries-old building, and an impressive one at that, there's a warmth that makes it feel all snug and homely. You'll find rosy-red hues, soft furnishings and antique rugs that keep things cosy from the get-go, as well as a roll-top bath and comfortable bedrooms that offer a relaxing stay for the entire group. On the ground floor, there's a bucolic dining area with low beamed ceilings and a wooden table for convivial meals. For trips to the shore, the owners have provided all kinds of gear: surfboards, wetsuits, fishing rods and even a kayak – walk to the Cornish coastline in under half an hour. Visit the Eden Project, only a twenty-minute drive from your historic home, and enjoy endless lovely country strolls through the Lost Gardens of Heligan nearby – the perfect spot for walking your dog (they're allowed too). We love a home steeped in a rich history, and we may even venture to say that this old chapel is one of our favourites.
