Located right in the heart of Arundel, this Grade-II listed Victorian townhouse has stunning views over the castle and the Gothic cathedral on top of the hill. Originally designed and built by Joseph Hansom (the architect behind Arundel Cathedral), there are plenty of traditional features inside to admire. Modern gadgets like a flat-screen smart TV and slick wine fridge are seamlessly incorporated into the decor alongside original fireplaces, windows and chandelier-hung ceiling roses. We loved the mix of furniture, with individual pieces specially selected to fit each room, as well as the charming courtyard garden. Overall, we felt the home was warm, inviting, comfortable and very clean. Add in the location – just a two-minute walk from the high street – and it's a winner. Arundel is quaint and charming with pretty shops, art galleries, pubs, coffee shops and a fairytale castle to discover. Right by the river Avon and near to excellent walks in the South Downs, you're also close to great spots on the South Coast – it's less than twenty minutes to Worthing and about a forty-minute drive from Brighton. This is a lovely option for a family looking to linger for a while and enjoy a slower pace of life, within easy driving distance of the seaside.

Home truths

This home is set over three floors with lots of stairs – it’s not suitable for toddlers or people with limited mobility

There’s no parking on-site, so you’ll have to use a public pay-and-display car park if you drive – although there are good rail connections if you’d rather leave the car at home

While this home could sleep eight guests at a squeeze, due to the size of the communal areas, we think it’s better for six guests

There are no blackout blinds in the bedrooms, so you’ll wake up to morning light

    The fireplaces are ornamental only

This home is close to neighbours on both sides – with that in mind, please keep noise to a minimum, especially after 10pm

About Chichester

Sitting pretty between the rolling South Downs and the English Channel lies Chichester, the jewel of the south coast’s crown. Start your trip by wandering the city centre’s well-preserved Georgian streets, which join together in a cross by the elegant cathedral, best-known for its stunning 12th-century carvel panels. There are plenty of independent shops, restaurants and cafes to explore here (we particularly love the boutiques on the Pallant’s tangle of...
