This old coastguard cottage is perfect for a creative retreat and break from the city, sitting on a windswept stretch of countryside between serene, sheep-grazed pastures and the sea. Nearly 150 years old and recently renovated, this cottage is far from ordinary, with many thoughtful touches such as the wood-burning stove, a modern kitchen, original artwork and vintage furnishings. Bathe in the sumptuous loft-space bathtub under the stars, wake up in comfort to the sound of the sea and head out to explore the misty, brooding Romney Marsh. Warm up in the many atmospheric pubs with intriguing histories, resident ghouls, roaring fireplaces, cracking ales and tasty grub. For a day of fun in the sun, walk along the pebbled beach or bring a bucket and spade and visit the popular Camber Sands.

Home truths
This is an older home in an exposed location so in the winter months the wind can really howl off the sea – some guests love this eerie atmosphere, while some have found it a little unsettling
This cottage is next to the Lydd Ranges, a military firing range and nature reserve, where access is sometimes restricted – red flags are flown during these times and access is prohibited along the foreshore
While there is a local bus service, we recommend having a car if you are planning to explore the area

Host
This home is managed by Richard
This home is managed directly by a business. A member of their staff will be your point of contact before and during your stay. Richard and Sophie have lived in Camber Sands for more than 10 years. They did what most of us only dream of - came here on holiday, fell in love and never left. They are passionate about making your holiday unforgettable, and are delighted to share recommendations for restaurants and day trips in the local area. Oh, and their son Arthur can share the best things to do for little ones; and dog Dougal will let you four-legged friends know the best walks around.
