You'll find this cosy homestead just off Beer's main street, only a five-minute stroll to the beach. This is a charming Devonian fishing village, with independent shops, galleries, eateries and cafes all right down the street. Set on the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, there's a slew of coastal walks and hiking trails to take advantage of, including the cliff-hugging path to Branscombe Beach. Following a day in the sun, come home and rest your feet in the inviting living area. The natural Farrow & Ball colours bring a relaxed, beachy vibe to this home that we love. Add to it the natural stone floors in the kitchen, the snug fireplace and the glossy hardwood and it's an utterly homely place to unwind. There are two lounges – one for adults and one for kids, perhaps? – and a light-filled dine-in kitchen where everyone can come together to share meals and play board games. Out back, the pretty cottage garden is perfect for alfresco dining. Start the morning with breakfast at the outdoor table and end the day with a glass of wine, breathing in the scent of lavender and other fragrant flowers as the sun goes down.

Home truths

The utility room with the washing machine and tumble dryer is outside the main house

Bed linen is included but there's an extra charge for towels

All the bedrooms are upstairs, so this home may not be suitable for those with limited mobility

About East Devon

The East Devon AONB has a rugged beauty all of its own, with canary-yellow gorse trees peppering its hills and rolling green fields punctuated only by the occasional country house. And then, of course, along the southern edge lies the sea, which crashes against the coast for miles, creating curving, white-sand bays beneath towering green cliffs. Take the coastal path the entire length of the shore, and you’ll come across...
