Escape the big smoke at this Grade II-listed country cottage, set in Kent’s postcard-pretty village of Cranbrook and less than two hours from London. The very embodiment of all things English, this traditional weatherboard home is filled with authentic touches – from the exposed timber frames decorating each room to the wood-burner in the lounge and antique pieces. Step out into the pretty walled garden to savour morning coffees in the sunshine – the view of the village’s famous Union Windmill is delightful from here. And you can chase the sun to the lawned garden with a sunny patio at the front of the cottage – it’s just as charming. When it’s time to get out exploring, you’ve come to the right place. Home to must-see monuments, rambling walks, and crumbling castles, Kent’s High Weald is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for good reason. And the village of Cranbrook won’t disappoint either. Explore its wander-worthy streets peppered with independent shops, bustling delis and coffee shops for brunch, and traditional inns for fine upper-crust grub. Or, for adventures further afield, you’ll love exploring National Trust-owned Sissinghurst Castle Garden (a mere seven-minute drive away), walking parts of the 94-mile High Weald Landscape... Trail, and visiting Kent’s vineyards

About The High Weald
The fourth largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales, it’s one of our most ancient landscapes and covers an area of nearly 1,500 square kilometres across Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex and Surrey. Simply put, it’s the huge, mostly flat part of the south east that fits neatly in between the hills of the North and South Downs. Taken from the Old English word ‘wald’, meaning forest,...
