With roses rambling round the front door, an inglenook fireplace, and a mature walled garden overlooked by a historic church, this 18th-century home is the quintessential picture of English country living. The property sings period charm with original timbers, winding staircases and lots of quirky features. This achingly gorgeous house is set in the heart of the pretty village of Barham, with shops to explore and a welcoming local pub. Canterbury’s world-famous cathedral and winding medieval streets are only a fifteen-minute drive away, and Goodnestone Park’s stunning gardens are even closer. You’re slap bang in the middle of the North Downs area of outstanding natural beauty, so you’re spoilt for country walks, vineyards and lovely villages. If you fancy a bit of sea air, you’re under half an hour from the Folkestone, where you can explore the retro shops in the Old Town and have lunch on the Harbour Arm. Come back for sundowners in your beautiful planted garden, prepare a meal in the country-style kitchen, or wander down to the Duke of Cumberland for some tasty pub grub with the locals.

Home truths

This is a period house so there are some uneven floors and winding staircases, which may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility

You can only park directly outside the house for dropping off or unloading - there is a detached garage at the end of the garden with space for one car and a driveway with off-street parking for two more cars

The second bedroom is made up of a single bed and is on the smaller side, so better suited to younger children

Your host provides two travel cots and a high chair on request

The city centre is compact and beautiful – with cobbled streets lined with architectural treasures, fabulous shopping and an eclectic mix of eateries, ancient pubs and student bars. Nearly one...
