Located in the heart of colourful Southwold on the Suffolk Coast, this quaint cottage sets you just minutes from the beach and the charming high street. Although this home is on the compact side, it's excellently laid out for a small family to make it a handy base for exploring. Whether you're snuggled up in front of the fireplace watching a movie, cooking up a storm in the kitchen or enjoying a cup of tea or an evening cocktail on the small patio, you're sure to feel right at home. Kids can unwind in their own little mezzanine play den perched above the bunk beds – it's stocked with a selection of books and games to enjoy before bedtime. Parents, meanwhile, can doze off in the sumptuous main bedroom. That said, with so much to do on your doorstep, we doubt you'll spend much time at home. A three-minute walk leads to the sandy beach and upper promenade, where you can enjoy relaxed strolls, ice cream in hand, past the landmark lighthouse and pastel-coloured beach huts. Real ale fans can tour the award-winning Adnams Brewery, while the shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants in the town centre are also within easy reach.

The pier, with its traditional pavilion, might look like any other late-Victorian pier from the outside, but it’s a must-visit in this seaside town. What makes Southwold Pier different is its arcade of humorous, quirky, coin-operated machines. Created by the inventor Tim Hunkin, they feature a range of eccentric – and...
