This converted Victorian fishing warehouse in artsy Newlyn is truly one-of-a-kind. Packed with character, it's been restored with a cool, contemporary feel while still celebrating the building's original features, like the exposed stone walls and slate floor. We were blown away by the glass balconies showing off the triple-height ceilings, the bespoke floating oak staircases and the show-stopping master suite set on the entire top floor. A bright, open living space calls for settling in with cups of tea and scones provided by your host. Or if you’re feeling competitive, battle it out in a game of table football. And it's not just the design that's fascinating – the whole home is heated using a geothermal heat source from the nearby Newlyn Coombe River, which can be seen from the terrace as you enjoy drinks and good company waterside. You're only a few minutes from the bay and there's a nice selection of gastropubs and restaurants just a short walk away. Plus, Penzance is a six-minute drive (or a twenty-five-minute walk along the coastal path), so you're excellently positioned to explore southwest Cornwall.

Home truths
Cornwall is best explored by car, but parking can be tricky during the high season – there's some on-street parking around the house as well as a cash-only pay and display car park a few minutes away
Please take care on the open staircase and at the back of the property by the stream – children should never be left unattended in these areas
There is no door to the master bedroom but it has the top floor to itself – it also has an open en-suite bathroom, so there's no separation between the bathroom and the bedroom
You may find the supply of hot water is not enough for everyone to have long baths and showers
There’s a Co-op a five-minute walk away should you need to pick up provisions
