This one is hard to beat. With views across Lake Windermere, it's an elegant Edwardian home that's recently received a rather fancy, modern upgrade. It means you can step from period parts of the home, like the cosy snug, the living room and the wood-panelled formal dining room, into a vast contemporary extension – with a glazed gable end, stunning kitchen and patio doors out onto a terrace. At the end of the room, a casual living area gets the best of the views, along with comfy velvet sofas to sink into. Upstairs are four bedrooms, one with an en-suite, as well as a particularly luxurious family bathroom. Up on the top floor, a self-contained suite can either act as a fifth bedroom, or be used as more of a separate annexe. But be warned, guests might end up fighting over it. Its little balcony has knockout views. Outside, there are 2 acres of sunny southwest facing gardens to wander. In fact, there are plenty of beautiful walks from the house both short and long – stroll along the private lane connecting you to woodland walks through the Lakeland Fells and Ghyll Head – both under forty-five minutes from your... stately home. Or take a thirteen-minute drive to Gummer’s Howe walk summit for picturesque views of the lake and a sublime stroll. And after all that up and down, stop off at one of the surrounding gourmet hotel restaurants or historic pubs for a bite to eat.

About The Lake District
Poets and novelists have often escaped to the Lake District for a spot of inspiration. Famously, Wordsworth pondered about daffodils and clouds during his time here. The undulating hills are tracked with drystone walls while sheep graze, and farmsteads enjoy untouched beauty for miles around. England’s biggest lake, Windermere, cuts through a valley, sleek as glass and hosts a litany of cosy-pub-filled towns and water sports venues along its shores....
