On the very tip of Cape Cod's curved finger, Provincetown is an East Coast beach destination like no other. Not overly developed, it's managed to retain its small-town vibe and reputation as a haven for artists and writers. This charming home dates from the 1850s, and embodies the area's carefree feel. With a typical white-washed and blue-shuttered exterior, it's been thoughtfully modernised to blend its vintage character with modern comfort. We particularly love the landscaped garden, with its two bluestone terraces – one for dining and one for lounging. Grill up an outdoor feast on the barbecue, get settled among the greenery and just relax. There's even an outdoor shower for cleaning off after a trip to Herring Cove Beach, just round the corner. The Boatslip and the pretty shops on Commercial Street waterfront are just a stroll away. To get the most out of this relaxing town, follow the locals' lead and get around by foot or bike.
