This converted barn is a hiker’s dream because, while it's nothing flashy, it's within waking distance of England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike. But not just that. You can also hike over to Wast Water, the most dramatic and deepest of the area's lakes, and to a number of stunning waterfalls. The home is the perfect place to relax after a full day of walking and exploring, with a cosy vibe, ancient wooden beams, and simple furnishings. There's even an original spy hole to be discovered upstairs. Kickstart your evening with a long bath before relaxing in the garden with a well-deserved beer or two. When the summer sun shines on the verdant garden, it's an idyllic place to watch the world peacefully go by. We loved the romance of sunset whilst the sky gradually turned to a gorgeous red. The sleepy retreat is set in the village of Boot, a quaint collection of cobbled streets and sweet shops. There are a couple of nice pubs to try out too, and supplies can be picked up in Eskdale, a five-minute drive away.

About The Lake District

Poets and novelists have often escaped to the Lake District for a spot of inspiration. Famously, Wordsworth pondered about daffodils and clouds during his time here. The undulating hills are tracked with drystone walls while sheep graze, and farmsteads enjoy untouched beauty for miles around. England’s biggest lake, Windermere, cuts through a valley, sleek as glass and hosts a litany of cosy-pub-filled towns and water sports venues along its shores....
