The owners have done a genuinely extraordinary job in transforming their modern fisherman’s cottage in Rye into a tropical, Hawaiian-themed escape. From the whimsical Aloha signage and shell print cushions to the splashes of turquoise and sky blue, the rope towel rail and framed vintage postcards, the inside is choc-full with creative flourishes while still retaining the next-level comfort of a boutique bolthole on a tropical beach. But outside in the garden is where the fun truly starts. At the whitewashed wooden tiki hut with tall bar stools and driftwood you can mix cocktails, work on a Pacific island tan and practice your hula moves. Just keep your fingers crossed the British weather comes to the luau – and don’t forget to pack your grass skirt.
