Say hello to peace, privacy and picturesque views at this stunning 17th-century cottage squirrelled away in the east Devon countryside. A former barn that has been lovingly transformed into a stylish yet homely retreat, the traditional features – think a flickering wood burner, exposed beams and a vaulted ceiling that makes for a striking focal point – mixed up with trendy and modern flourishes. We loved the eclectic artwork on the walls, the bold navy paintwork in the master bedroom and the cool upcycled furniture. Take a moment to admire your surroundings and you’ll be mightily impressed. The rolling Blackdown Hills – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty no less – landscaped gardens and wildflower meadows make up the three acres of private land on the estate. Swap the bucolic countryside for the seaside with a thirty-minute drive to the Jurassic Coast. In the evenings, we can’t think of anywhere better than back at home in the open-plan living room with a cocktail from the honesty bar. Throw another log on the fire, and relax.

About East Devon

The East Devon AONB has a rugged beauty all of its own, with canary-yellow gorse trees peppering its hills and rolling green fields punctuated only by the occasional country house. And then, of course, along the southern edge lies the sea, which crashes against the coast for miles, creating curving, white-sand bays beneath towering green cliffs. Take the coastal path the entire length of the shore, and you’ll come across...
