Vetted by our experts

From the moment you see the grand stone exterior and cobbled courtyard, you’ll know that this ever-so-charming home is steeped in history. It's a former malthouse that’s over 300 years old and filled with traditional features. When you step into the entrance hall, you’re entering through the large oak door onto the original cart-way, and as you start trying to choose which bedroom you want to lay claim to, you’ll be winding your way up a turret stairway with rope bannisters, surrounded by wooden beams and original fireplaces. The interior has been fully renovated, with a modern handmade kitchen, squishy sofas, and cute-as-a-button bedrooms. Sip your afternoon tea perched on the sunny window seat with a good book in hand...

Staying in Somerset

Somerset is all about Glastonbury, right? Well, think again! There's a certain town-meets-country charm here that is enticing increasing numbers of stressed city dwellers seeking solace. And who can blame them? Rat race relocators are abandoning their crowded commutes, searching for a bucolic idyll. But one where you can still get a decent flat white – that's an absolute must. Follow the creative crumb trail out of East London, and...

Home truths

What the photos might not tell you, but we do

  • As the home is over 300 years old it has some quirky unevenness

  • The home shares a car park and entrance gate with the cottage next door – there is however six spaces

  • The ground floor bedroom and bathroom have just a couple of steps – this room wouldn't suit those with any mobility issues who may struggle with the spiral staircase

  • Some of the bedrooms have zip-and-link beds which can be set up as two single beds or as a double bed - please let the host know how you would like them arranged

  • A small amount of wood for the fireplace is supplied for two nights – if you're staying longer, you can order more in advance at an additional cost of £45 per week

  • Dogs are allowed in this home, but an additional fee of £45 will apply

Beds and bathrooms

  • 7 bedrooms, 8 beds

Your host Deborah

This home is managed directly by its owner who will be your point of contact before and during your stay.

Deborah fell head over heels for the Malthouse and lovingly restored it to where it is now. She enjoys spending quality time in it with friends and family as well as renting the place out for her guests. It's fair to say, you will be well looked after during your stay here.
