Just a short stroll away from fashionable Montpellier, this bright Edwardian apartment makes for the perfect Cheltenham break. Floor-to-ceiling arched windows let natural light stream into the living space, where cream sofas, chandeliers and lovingly curated vintage art ooze classic period elegance. We love the little touches here and there, including the colourful vases and knick-knacks the hosts have collected during their travels. It feels cosy, and though the kitchen is compact, there's still enough room to rustle up light lunches and breakfasts. Start your mornings with a cup of coffee on the small balcony, which overlooks the communal lawns. In the evenings, open a bottle of wine and gather around the table, chatting and laughing the night away, before nodding off in the sumptuous bedrooms. There are a wealth of upmarket shops, independent cafes and gourmet restaurants (including Michelin star-awarded) only a few minutes stroll away. Culture vultures can browse the local art displays at The Gardens Gallery or catch a show at the gorgeous Everyman Theatre (a fifteen-minute stroll away), but if you're in town for the races, the course is a quick ten-minute drive.

However, today Cheltenham is best known for its racecourse, which sees visitors arriving in droves to watch the annual mid-March Cheltenham Cup. While the town is...
